Experience Colorado’s heritage by trying your hand at panning for gold in the South Platte River near Carson Nature Center, behind Aspen Grove Shopping Center. South Suburban Parks and Recreation naturalists will provide the expertise and equipment for families and individuals to search for gold during a FREE drop-in event as a part of the Western Welcome Week celebration. Bring water shoes or old sneakers, bare feet are not permitted in the river.

“We find about the same amount of gold found by the early prospectors who started the Gold Rush — a flake or two in almost every pan,” said Skot Latona, Supervisor of South Platte Park. Everyone is welcome to keep whatever gold they find. This is a unique opportunity for people to connect to the community and find out what life was like in the South Platte River valley 150 years ago.

For more information call 303-730-1022 or visit South Suburban online at www.sspr.org/nature. South Platte Park is located at 3000 W. Carson Dr., Littleton, convenient to light rail and C470.
