Old Fashioned Cake Contest ~ Policies & Procedures
Calling All Cake Bakers & Decorators! Western Welcome Week will be holding its 10th Annual Old Fashioned Cake Contest. The contest will be held in conjunction with the Family Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, August 12, in the cafeteria at Arapahoe Community College. The Western Welcome Week theme this year deals with health and wellness, “Fun & Fit”.
A Variety of Baking Opportunities… The Western Welcome Week Old Fashioned Cake Contest has opportunities for participants of all ages. Every child, teen and adult will have the opportunity to participate in this event of old. Tasting and decoration are both included in the contest. Each cake can only be registered in one category.
How the Western Welcome Week Old Fashioned Cake Contest Works…
Registration…Pre-registration for the Cake Contest is encouraged and preferred, however, contestants may register at the event. Registration at the event is from 7:30am – 8:15am
By signing the entry form the contestant:
Gives permission to have their entry photographed. Photographs will remain the property of Western Welcome Week Inc. and may be used at the their discretion online or in future publications.
Agrees to hold harmless Western Welcome Week and any participant/attendee of the Old Fashioned Cake Contest and Family Pancake Breakfast for any damaged to or loss of entry.
Tasting contestants agree to allow consumption of their cake by the general public at the conclusion of judging.
Agrees to abide by all rules of the show including not removing entry before the close of the contest.
And most of all have FUN!
Notification…Once your pre-registration cake contest application has been received you will also receive an acceptance email to verify your participation in the event. Please feel free to contact the WWW office at (303) 794‑4870 to verify status of application.
Categories and Entry Fees…
ADULT – 18+ years • $5 per entry

• Decoration
- Novice
- Experienced
TEEN – 13 to 17 years • $3 per entry
• Tasting
• Decoration
CHILD – 12 years and under • $2 per entry
• Tasting
• Decoration
* A cake can only be entered into one category
Cake tasting is an open class event, requiring that the cake be home baked no boxed mixes. Decorated cakes can be any size and all parts must be edible on decorated cakes. Cakes with non-edible parts will be disqualified.
Judging…
Taste judging will begin at 9:30am with decoration judging throughout the morning.
Taste judges will be representatives from –Arapahoe Community College, Arapahoe County, and from the community.
Decoration will be judged throughout the morning by attendees of the Family Pancake Breakfast.
Ribbons from WWW and prizes from Pampered Chef® will be awarded for each category
Judges shall enforce all policies and regulations and have the right to re-categorize any entry if necessary. Placement and disqualification of entries will be final.
No cake displaying poor taste will be allowed. Judges and/or Show Committee have the right to disqualify and remove entries showing poor taste.
Award winners will receive ribbons after judging is complete
Pancake Breakfast…The Cake Contest is held in conjunction with the Family Pancake Breakfast. Join us for the All-You-Can-Eat Family Pancake Breakfast with Jose’s Sizzlin’ sausage, Romancing the Bean Coffee, and juice and milk from Royal Crest Dairy from 7:30am-11am. Adult tickets $5, Child (5 – 15) $3, age 4 and under free.
Kids Games of Old…Enjoy the FREE Kids Games of Old out on the lawn from 8am-11am and the Bruce Wolf Stick Horse Stampede at 9am. Bring your own stick horse or you can purchase one from Jane’s Posse for $10.
